The Akuban Civil War lasted from 1511 to 1512, and was a civil war over the kingdom of Akuba.

The Civil War began 24 April 1511 caused by disagreement between the Akuban Noble Families of Sha'zaaren and Gil'daaren of which one would succeed the recently assassinated King Haraziem to the throne. Fighting began in every major settlement in Akuba, with three factions rising up, one led by the Sha'zaaren, one by the Gil'daaren, and a third led by the Aboudad.

In October 1511, having secured the Cape Peninsula & the Sandashar, Lord Ramar Sha'zaaren proclaimed himself King of Akuba and began executing political opposition. By January 1, 1512, the other families unite together with the Stone Accord against King Sha'zaaren and his supporters.

Conflict continued until November 1512 when Sandashar fell and Ramar Sha'zaaren was slain. A number of Sha'zaaren loyalists outside of the capital continued to fight on, despite the formal end to the war.

After the war the towns along the North Coast of Akuba were raided by Mistryan forces, taking advantage of their weakened state.

Background[]

King Haraziem was over 80 years old at the time of his assassination on 22 March 1511. He was considered a weak king by the ruling Conclave of nobles and his heir wasn't considered by them to be fit for the position of King. The Conclave were merely waiting for the King to die to make their move.

King Haraziem's assassination took place while the king was with his children on a diplomatic mission in Mistrya. King Haraziem assassination was orchestrated by a small faction from Drekis unaffected with the Crown or Government while the assassin herself was caught and taken to the Akuban capital for punishment.

Phase I - The Three Factions[]

Conflict breaks out[]

AkubanWar

On 23 April, with the heir to the throne having lived in Drekis for a long time and having no political clout with the families, the Conclave votes the Haraziem Family out of power, as the law permits, before Prince Budariousz Haraziem can be inaugurated. After the vote, both the Sha'zaaren and Gil'daaren expect to be the new monarch. After a lot of arguments in the council chamber, factions grew that day.

Open conflict began in all the Akuban towns between the new factions. Fighting over the capital, Sandashar is fiece but eventually the Sha'zaaren troops take the city while the Gil'daaren esacpe with the treasury and Akuban Fleet.

Lord Ramar Sha'zaaren, head of house Sha'zaaren claims the throne and declares himself the new King of Akuba. King Ramar and his allies take control of Abenkai and Tal'Ushar in addition to Sandashar. This faction is considered the Western Block.

The Gil'daaren and their allies takes control of the Zakot, Sairo, Unyaka and are considered the Northern Block.

A third faction, consisting of the Aboudad, Baladin, and Questari families, take control of Aldir, Pike's Point and are considered the Eastern Block and are in control of Akuba's calvary. The calvary raid the Grasslands of the Cape of Rohana before pulling back to reinforce Aldir and Yetel.

There is fighting between the factions inside Yetel but the city guard evicts the noble families. However a month later Yetel joins the Eastern Block after the Questari helps clear out the city of combatants.

Northern Block, who held control of the Akuban Navy, blockades of Abenkai, Tal'Ushar, Aldir and Pike's Point. The Eastern Block uses the Akuban Army to secure the Cape of Rohana and then to lay siege to Unyaka. The Eastern Block loses then recaptures Pike's Point from the Northern Block.

The two Halfing Noble Houses (Amari & Zazaren) as well as the Scholar & Wizard Noble Houses (Orran & Sha'zhar) remained neutral in the war.

Alliance against Ramar Sha'zaaren[]

King Ramar Sha'zaaren cast down the old ways and declared Akuba would adopt an Eridonian style of monarchy. Those that refused to recognize him as the absolute ruler of Akuba were executed. The heads of household for each town were brought to him and told to swear fealty to their new monarch. Any head of house that refused was executed along with their family, servants, and salves.

When King Ramar made his plans clear to his Spark'steel allies, the head of their house, Therdin Spark'steel, would not agree to an absolute monarchy. King Ramar had him, his wife, and all their progeny killed. Ramar went to the next in line, Ramar's brother Verick, and explained the situation with a similar offer. Verick agreed to make the whole Spark'steel house subjects of the absolute monarch Ramar Sha'zaaren, but when word spread out to the rest of his extended family, there were problems. The extended family thought he was a coward for bowing to a tyrant when his brother had given his life. The Spark'steel family split in half, and Verick crushed the "rebellion" as he claimed it.

When Unyaka was conquered, all the nobles were rounded up, even the minor houses, and they were all executed in public. A few civilians escaped to Aldir and told of what they saw, and what they heard was happening in the capital. Rumor travels quickly and soon the heads of the Northern Alliance interviewed the refugees themselves. Once house Stone'song heard of the split and massacre of house Spark'steel, they insisted to the rest of the Northern Alliance that they put their differences aside with the Eastern Forces and join to put down "The Tyrant and the Traitor".

On 13 October clay tablets were sent to each of the heads of house in each of the towns. Eventually all 10 houses came to agree to work together, even without an agreement for who should rule or be the commander of their armies.

The Tyrant Lord Ramar Sha'zaaren and the Traitor Lord Verick Spark'steel have executed innocents, civilians, clerics, and members of their own family. Let us join together to put down these rabid dogs, surely such civilized people as us can find common cause against mad men.

Phase II - The Two Factions[]

January to November 1512 the Akuban Civil War was between King Ramar and the noble families that opposed him.

In November 1512 King Ramar is deposed and the Conclave is re-established?

After the war the towns along the North Coast of Akuba were raided by Mistryan forces, taking advantage of their weakened state.
